What it is

Premiere Pro is Adobe's non-linear video editor. Footage is arranged on a timeline, trimmed, layered with audio and titles, colour corrected and exported for the web, broadcast or social media. It handles most camera formats natively, including high-resolution and drone footage, and uses proxies for heavy files. It is one of the most widely used editors in the industry.

It runs on both macOS and Windows and is part of Creative Cloud, so it shares projects with After Effects for motion graphics and with Audition for sound. Productions and team projects let several editors work on the same job. It is widely used in broadcast, film, agencies and online video.

How I use it

  • Part of the in-house video side of my work: highlight reels, product and promo pieces.
  • Drone footage, promo cuts and highlight reels for client websites, shot and edited by the same person who builds the page.
  • Video for athlete recruiting sites, where the game film is shot and edited to match the site.

Premiere Pro is the right tool for cutting real footage into something finished, especially when the job also involves After Effects or other Adobe files. I keep it in the toolkit because the video I deliver is shot, edited and placed by the same person who builds the site it lives on.

Questions

Do you edit video as well as build websites?

Yes. Highlight reels, product and promo pieces and drone footage are shot and edited in-house, by the same person who builds the page, so the film and the site fit together.

Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro?

Both edit professionally. Premiere Pro runs on Mac and Windows and works closely with other Adobe apps. Final Cut Pro is Mac-only and is tuned for Apple hardware.

Got an operation that's outgrown its spreadsheets?
