Rental Pilot, white-label

Your app, your domain

Rental Pilot is the rental software I built inside a working equipment rental company in Alberta. Now any rental business can run it as their own: their logo, their colours and their web address, across the web app, the iPhone and Android app, the desktop app and a customer portal.

Nothing you type leaves this page. It is a preview built in HTML, with sample data and illustrative wording, not a screenshot of a real account.

Proof: a demo company’s real domain, traced live

Mervin Car Rentals is a demo company on the car rental profile. Its addresses are real, and this traces one right now.

    Address to trace
    1. 1 Their domain app.mervinc.com What the customer types
    2. 2 CNAME — The one record they add, pointing at Rental Pilot
    3. 3 CloudFront tenant — A tenant of a multi-tenant distribution
    4. 4 Certificate — Issued automatically by AWS Certificate Manager
    5. 5 The app — Reads the host name and loads that company’s brand

    Ready to trace.

    Open them yourself: app.mervinc.com customer.mervinc.com cus.mervinc.com

The trace runs from my API at the edge: it follows the DNS chain, then opens a TLS connection and reads the certificate the visitor would get. Limited to 40 traces a visitor a day.

How a company gets its own address

Three steps, and only the last one involves DNS.

    1. 01

Sign up and pick your industry

Rental Pilot adapts its wording and features to the profile you pick, so a boat livery sees charters and launches, not agreements and deliveries.

    2. 02

      Add your logo and colours

They carry through the app, and through the emails your customers get: your logo, your colours and your company name, live in production today.

    3. 03

      Add one CNAME

Point app., customer. or cus. at the name you are given. The certificate and the CDN are automatic.

      app.mervinc.com. CNAME mervi.domains.rentalpilot.ca.

    Under the hood

    Amazon CloudFront, multi-tenant
    • Each company’s domain becomes a distribution tenant on a CloudFront multi-tenant (SaaS) distribution, so a new customer is a new tenant, not a new stack.
    • Each tenant gets its own TLS certificate, issued and renewed by AWS Certificate Manager.
    • Host-based branding: one build of the app reads the host name and loads that company’s logo and colours.

Proven in equipment rental, configured for 18 rental industries

The depth was built running a real equipment rental yard. Every other profile gets its own wording and modules on top of that.

    Put your name on it

Tell me what you rent and the address you want. I will set up the company, the brand and the domain. I'm in the Lower Mainland, BC, and work with businesses across Canada and the US.

Got an operation that's outgrown its spreadsheets?

Tell me what your business does and where it's jamming up. If I'm not the right person for it, I'll say so and point you somewhere better.
